KIOKI
PROJECT TYPE
Furniture Design, New Product Development
YEAR
2025
LOCATION
32nd Avenue, Gurgaon
Inspired by the raw materiality of Japanese fishing settlements and the ritual of robata grilling, Kioki translates a vernacular of craft into an elevated spatial and object language. The design draws from timber boathouses, weathered docks and the quiet intensity of coastal landscapes, reinterpreted through a dark, immersive hospitality setting.
At the core is a raw yet refined material palette — charred timber informed by the Japanese wood-burning technique, oxidised metal, textured plasters and deeply tonal finishes that evoke age, smoke and salt. These materials lend the space depth and authenticity while framing a warm, intimate atmosphere.
Custom furniture and product IP extend this narrative, conceived as sculptural yet utilitarian pieces shaped by joinery traditions, fishing tools and elemental forms. The result is a sensorial izakaya experience where architecture, craft and object merge into a contemporary interpretation of Japanese ritual and material culture.
